The Cairns Birdwing is a butterfly endemic to Queensland and is Australia's largest endemic butterfly species.
This species scientific name is Ornithoptera euphorion, it's common name is the Cairns Birdwing, which references the Australian cities in the region where this butterfly is found. Its favoured habitat is rainforest of the Queensland wet tropics region, including riverine forest, and particularly near the coast.
The wingspan can be up to 15 cm (5.9 in) in females, and 12.5 cm (4.9 in) in males. The females are a darker yellow, brown and grey whereas the males are a bright yellow and green.
